Virginia War Memorial
Dedicated in February 1956, the Virginia War Memorial is the Commonwealth’s memorial to those soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in global conflicts from World War II to the current war on terror. In addition to thousands of etched names on the memorial’s Shrine of Memory and Wall of Honor, an education center presents exhibitions and programming while an amphitheater hosts annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. The Carillon Bell Tower in Richmond’s Byrd Park honors those who served during World War I.
