Mennonites and Brethren have lived in the Shenandoah Valley for more than two centuries, but their creative labor as farmers and craftsmen and their unique form of Christian piety have remained largely invisible. Their faith emphasizes peace and non-violence and spiritual values over material possessions. The Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center operates three locations that tell the story of these peaceful people who settled in the area. CrossRoads is the main campus, with satellite sites at the Breneman-Turner Mill and the historic Hildebrand Church.
