St. Paul’s Church (Richmond)
The architecture of St. Paul’s, an offshoot of Monumental Church, complements both nearby Capitol Square and St. Peter Catholic Church, Virginia’s first cathedral. Once known as the Cathedral of the Confederacy due to high-profile congregants such as Jefferson Davis and Robet E. Lee, the church founded the History & Reconciliation Initiative in 2015. The initiative has brought together local citizens in a commitment to understand the past role of race, slavery, and segregation in the history of the church and Richmond, as well as the legacies of ongoing discrimination and racial inequities.
