Constructed in 1795 of Native Limestone, with additions in the 19th and 20th centuries, the Shenandoah County Courthouse now serves as a museum, visitors center and office for the Shenandoah County Historical Society. Before entering, take a peek at the hexagonal cupola. It evokes similar features found in Germany. The weathervane? It depicts a Swiss Guard. Together they tell a lot about who settled Woodstock, unofficially known as Muellerstadt in the early years. For more Old World flavor, drive 15 minutes down the Valley and visit the Shenandoah Germanic Heritage Museum.
