Route 5 Plantations (Shirley, Berkeley, Sherwood Forest, Westover/Evelynton)
Treasures from four centuries overlook the James River on Virginia’s scenic Route 5 in Charles City County. The county is strategically located between the James and Chickahominy Rivers, close to the colonial capitals of Jamestown and Williamsburg. The plantations have survived the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. The county’s manor houses are open for visitors and are reachable by car via Route 5 or by bicycle along the Virginia Capital Trail.
