The Poquoson Museum seeks to preserve the multi-faceted cultural and historical heritage of the lower Chesapeake waterside community. The name “Poquoson” is likely derived from an Algonquian word “pocosin” meaning “swamp.” The museum is in the process of creating a campus dedicated to preserving all aspects of Poquoson’s rich heritage. Unique architecture, a preserved general store, agriculture, and local watermen stories will be combined into a comprehensive array of cultural landscape resources and exhibits.
