Christ Church (Middlesex)

In many ways, this classic colonial church experienced the usual historical arc of its surviving brethren. Completed about 1720, Christ Church boasts the timeless red brick exterior, survived abandonment after the American Revolution and a revival in the 1840s, and comes complete with a churchyard of colonial graves. A later grave marker stands at the resting place of military icon Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller, the most decorated Marine in the history of the Corps. Another colonial church, Lower Chapel (now Lower United Methodist Church) stands 6.6 miles east along Virginia state route 3.
