Historically speaking, Berryville is one town with two communities. The history dates to the colonial period and includes the Civil War and the arrival of the railroad. Start your visit of this classic crossroads courthouse town at the Clarke County Historical Association Museum. Then take in the Jefferson-inspired Roman Revival Clarke County Courthouse. Proceed a mile to the Josephine City School Community Museum and its namesake African American neighborhood, which developed in the 1870s.
