Belle Grove Plantation, Frederick Co.
Erected in 1797, Belle Grove Plantation in Frederick County is known as the home of James Madison’s sister, Nelly Madison Hite, and her husband Isaac Hite. During the Civil War, Union General Philip Sheridan used the plantation as a headquarters at the heart of the Battle of Cedar Creek. This outstanding historic mansion reflects the cultures that came to the Shenandoah Valley with the early settlers. On the National Register of Historic Places and the centerpiece of the Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historic Park, Belle Grove is an active farm and education center.
